Summer Happenings

Hello All…  It has been a very busy summer for the CW Event Team.  I have been in and out of Lexington teaching clinics and work with David and Karen O’Connor.

In early June Karen and I taught a four day clinic at Holly Hill Farm in Benton, LA.  That was a great experience teaching 40 riders next to Karen!!  David had a prior commitment so I was asked to substitute for him.  About a week after that, I met Karen and David in Lexington,Virginia to do the first of two O’Connor Camps.  The second one was at Rebecca Farm in Montana where Karen, David, Amy Tryon and I taught 26 campers for 5 days!!  Max Corcoran, Karen’s groom extraordinaire, also accompanies us on the camps and clinics to give lectures and demo’s on the groom’s end of things, to include studs, braiding, boots etc.   The facilities at Rebecca Farm were superb!  You can bet this place will be on my schedule next year.  It is worth the drive to compete here.

That somewhat catches you up to present day.  We just finished up the challenging courses at Champagne Run HT at the KY Horse Park.  We had wonderful weather and it was not to awful hot as it has been in years past.

Viatar, Forli, Maggie, and Timmy all loaded up and went to the park for the weekend.  V returned to competition this weekend and has made a complete recovery.  He went out and ran around a challenging preliminary course and answered all the questions after a low dressage score and a clean show jumping round finishing in 2nd place.

Forli ran his second training this weekend finishing in 10th place.  After one green stop into the water he jumped right in upon the second presentation.  His dressage has been better but with all the construction going on at the horse park in preparation for the World Games, he stayed as focused as he could.

I had a tack malfunction with Timmy on XC.  A broken running martingale required me to retire him on XC this weekend.  I was still able to gather some valuable information about this newest member of the CW Event Team though.  He will continue to get out and do what the other big guys are doing until he can feel a little more settled away from home and I can help him suppress some of his impulsive behaviors.  He will need a little more time but I am excited about his potential.

Maggie, owned by Nancy Cirgliano was a complete joy to run this weekend.  She has become much more balanced and I was able to maintain a rhythmical canter in both show jumping and on XC.  She was totally quiet and relaxed for dressage as well.  She finished on her dressage score in 4th place.

I am currently on the road headed to VA to work all the horses, including Simba who did not need to run around the horse park this weekend.  After spending a few days with Karen, the CW Event Team will head up to Stuart Horse Trials in New York.  After Stuart we have Penny Oaks and Hunter’s Run on the schedule.  I look forward to seeing everyone out there!
