Flying Cross HT and Poplar Place HT

The CW Event Team has been busy.  My new groom Janine is settling in and we are working as a team on what is the best interest of my horses.  I think she is going to be a great addition to the team.

After a very wet Flying Cross, I have decided that the Area VIII Championships were to be wet this year no matter when or where they were held!  I had Simba entered in the Preliminary Championships and even though he was 2nd after dressage I thought it best to withdraw him for XC due to the conditions of the footing.

Viatar went in the OP division and put in a very nice dressage and show jumping round but the footing did pose some issues for him at a couple of fences on course.  I was pleased he completed the weekend though.

Forli’s Match put in a nice dressage test and quiet show jumping round but with all the horses headed to Poplar place the following weekend, I decided to withdraw him before XC also.  He was so good at Kentucky Classique that I did not want to scare him by jumping around a decent course in sloppy footing.

After Flying Cross, we dried out and began packing for our Wednesday departure for Poplar Place.  Viatar was to run the CIC 2*, Simba the Preliminary Horse division, and Forli’s Match in the Training Horse division.

After a pleasant dressage test, I walked the 2* course that Viatar was to run.  After a night of reflection I knew I needed to withdraw.  I have ridden a lot of horses and taken many of them to the top of our sport and I knew that Viatar would not jump confidently around the course that Poplar had to offer and I was not going to make him.  I wanted us to have more of a partnership.  I am not sure what Viatar’s future is but I know it is not competing at the 2* level and above.  He is a wonderful animal and will make someone a nice horse.  I will keep everyone posted on what we decide will be best for him.

Simba has stepped up to the plate and was a total star at Poplar.  He jumped bravely and almost too confidently around the solid preliminary course.  He answered all the questions and had a great attitude about the whole weekend.  We did have two rails in show jumping but we will continue to work on his focus and him paying attention to the verticals!! He will be running the Preliminary at Team Challenge in two weeks.

Forli’s Match had a good weekend in the busy atmosphere at Poplar.  He was calm and focused.  He needed to take a look on xc at one fence but was great when I represented.  This horse is really coming along nicely.  He too will be competing at Team Challenge.

I am home until we head to Virginia Horse trials the last weekend in October.  Contact me for lessons and I will be coaching at Team Challenge.  Please let me know if I need to put you on my student warm- up list.  I will be giving course walk times on the barn phone, as always.  Please call to get your course walk time.

Good luck to everyone and keep kicking!
