The CW Event Team had a very busy weekend. We left early Thursday morning to head down to Poplar Place. Having just driven up from Florida, I thought the trip might be an uneventful one. However, I was wrong. North of Chattanooga I noticed my truck was acting strange. I found a Ford dealership and sure enough we had big trouble. Luckily, Whitney Morris had driven down to Poplar Place Wednesday night with her three horse rig. I called Whitney and she headed up to pick up the horses. Suzie Romej and Kelsey Hamilton were also on their way down so I had them stop by the dealership and we transferred tack, shavings, and clothing into their rigs. Simba had stayed with the O’Connor’s in FL and Alston Kerr was bringing him up to me from Florida but I had his passport in the truck with me. Luckily it all came together quite easily and I was ready to start my weekend several hours later than planned.
Simba was absolutely wonderful all weekend. He scored a 48.3 in the FEI 1* test and that put him in 2nd place to start the weekend. The cross country was technical, as I had imagined it would be. Simba and I have done our home work and we were ready for the challenges the course had to give. We added 13.2 time faults to a clean cross country jumping round and show jumped clean to finish his first 1* in 2nd place.
Action Now started out his weekend well. He scored a 37.8 in dressage and was tied for 8th. His clean show jumping round moved him up to 7th. However, the heavy rains that fell in the morning created soggy footing and quite a stream running through our ditch. Action slipped in front of the ditch and since I have nice ditches to school at home, I did not want to push the issue in those conditions.
Eric Dierks brought the horse’s home for me on Sunday and I will return, hopefully on Tuesday, to pick up my truck and trailer.
I had nine students with a total of eleven horses to coach as well. Needless to say I stayed very busy the entire weekend. I am proud of all of you and appreciated the support you showed me and each other. Thanks for a great weekend! The CW Event Team heads to The Fork in two weeks.
