Florida Time!

A belated Happy New Year to you all!  So far we’re really off to a great start!   Area VIII’s annual convention went very well and was definitely a rousing success!   I took over the reins as the new Area VIII chair and we had Mary King as our guest speaker. She was gracious enough not only to answer almost every question we had but to also give a “virtual clinic” and critique DVDs that riders sent in. She  brought DVDs of herself  and told us what she was doing wrong and how she could’ve ridden better.  Mary King really emphasized the importance of watching videos of yourself ride and watching videos of riders that you’d like to emulate.

The following weekend was the MSEDA’s year-end awards banquet. I was voted by the membership to receive  the Kob Ryen Distinguished Service Award and also awarded a volunteer award for helping mary Fike with the steeplechase and showjumping for 2010 MSEDA event, and then doing the T 3day educational forum at the 2011 event.  Three of my horses received awards too!  Ready for April , owned by Rebecca Farm LLC, received 2nd place for master training level points, Investor, owned by Celeste Newman, received 4th place for master beginner novice, and Maggie owned by Nancy Cirgliano,  received 1st place for the master novice division! Congratulations to all our horses and students who received awards!

We arrived in Florida a week ago and already it’s looking like it will be a wonderful trip south for us this year. We brought down 4 horses in our load and they all traveled very well and settled in nicely to the Florida weather and routine!  All of them had a day off and a day of hacking to begin their Florida experience and then I have been able to get a few lessons from David O’Connor as Karen was out of town.  Education in the new hitchcock pen and jumping has been great. The changes at Longwood since Joe, her son, has been here have been positive  and great!!    Untill next time  Good Luck, Look up and Keep Kicking!!

Update!

Midsouth was a busy weekend for us with coaching, mentoring, helping and riding!  The event seemed to go wonderfully and it was fun to be involved with the Training and Preliminary Three Day Event.  One of the young sale horses was entered in Novice.  T-Bone was fantastic and ended up going home with a new owner!  Congrats to Claire Vanderwoude who tried him on Saturday, vetted him on Sunday and took him home!  We wish her the best with T-Bone, he is a special horse and we are excited about their future together.  We also sold another horse, Junior!  Most recently we had a few horses compete in the one day Octoberfest event and the KHP.  Two of the sale horses, (Twoeleveninprogress and Investor), competed in the novice.  Both finished on their dressage score and in 6th place.  Both these horses have come a long way and we look forward to seeing that is in store for them.  Investor has also been out fox-hunting and seems to love it!

We have a couple of horses signed up for a jump lesson with Anne Kursinski so I will let you know what homework we have for the winter!

I wanted to post a very nice letter I just received from a client.  She sent her horse, Junior, to us to be sold.

Cathy,

In all the years I’ve been buying and selling horses, I’ve never had a more positive experience. While it was a difficult decision for me to make, I had no doubt about sending him to you, I knew that he would be wonderfully taken care of and you’de be honest about pricing and selling him.

Never for a minute did I think you’de refund the end of the month, no one ever has, and this was the most “clear and transparent” transaction I’ve ever been involved in.

I’m sending Junior’s new owner a bill of sale and his lifetime registration with the USDF.

I will be telling anyone who will listen what a terrific job you did, and the next time I’m buying, selling or boarding a horse, it will be with you.

Put me on your contributors solicit list when you get your next rolex horse, we’d be happy to help.

Warmest regards, and thankls again,

Joyce

Thanks for the nice words Joyce!

Until next time!

Indiana Eventing Assocaition Training Three-Day

The training three-day at Hoosier Horse Park in Indiana was a great experience. The training horses, Goin to Seattle and Ready for April, gained invaluable experience and knowledge from the weekend. They were both improved on the dressage but the longer test really had me struggling to maintain their focus. Slewboy seems to be settling a little quicker these days and not becoming so nervous, which is always a good thing. The steeplechase school was great fun and very good for both horses. On Saturday Slewboy was fast and brave, a bit too fast really and I feel that a change of bit is in his future! He really loves to run and these fences don’t quite back him off but he finished strong and recovered quickly. The steeplechase was tremendous for Ready. It gave him such confidence to go out and have a good cross-country run. Confidence is not Ready’s strong suit but I am eager to see how doing the long format will help him in the future. He also finished feeling good and recovered well. Both boys trotted up great and were ready to go on Sunday. The show-jumping was tough course given the light-weight poles that were used. I really felt like Slewboy has been getting stronger and improving in this phase but the light poles were too much for him. He is not the most careful and he had 5 down. I was disappointed but I am confident that he is still a work in progress and will continue to improve. Ready had a nice round despite surprising me with a stop at fence three. I didn’t give him enough time to see the jump and he simply needed another look. He was able to hang on to second place though! I was glad to end the weekend with two happy and safe horses. They might have even come home a little smarter!
The organizers did a great job an the event was an all-around great experience.
Congratulations to Alston Kerr, Pam Kimmel, and Devon Gaines who each won their respective divisions. Way to go guys!! Also a congratulations to Marianne Debarbadillo for finishing the three day!
Until next time,
Keep kicking!

Maydaze!

Last weekend we took several of our young sale horses out to the KHP for a local event, Maydaze!  It is always nice to get a break from travelling to events and have one here at home.  The young horses always benefit  from being able to come home and go back to their regular turnouts at night.  I started my weekend early as I was the designer for all courses on Cross-Country and Show-Jumping as well.  We only had horses entered in the Novice and Beginner Novice so we started competition on Saturday.  The BN dressage was first.   Katie was riding 2 horses in this division; FICA, a lovely, young TB/Percheron Mare who is for sale, and Twoeleveninprogress, a 5y/o TB with loads of potential. FICA put in a good effort scoring in the 40.0’s.  She also jumped a very steady and clear show jumping round on Saturday afternoon.  She had one minor bobble on cross-country but finished the weekend much more confident.  Twoey had been cooped up all week recovering from an abscess and was a little out of practice.  He was happy to be at the competition and held it together for his test.  His
> test had some nice moments and we are confident that this little horse can produce low scores with a little more preparation. Unfortunately, Twoey’s abscess seemed to flair up again Saturday afternoon so we decided to call it a day with him and withdrew.
>  Monsta , (for sale), was my first ride of the day in the Novice.  This guy is quite capable and had a lovely test, especially considering it was his second time in the ring. His background in showjumping made that phase a piece of cake, and I was so proud of his improvement on cross-country.  He really seems to be getting the hang of it and after his clear round, he finished the weekend in 6th place. Maggie, a mare owned by Nancy Cirigliano was next up.  She had her best dressage test ever, winning her division.  After a clear run X-C and clear show-jumping she ended the weekend in 2nd, only because she had been tied and I didn’t pay enough attention to my watch!  What a great weekend for Maggie and her owners.  Another sale horse, Investor was my final ride in Novice. As usual, he put in a great performance in all three phases.  He is looking for his next event partner, so check him out on SportHorseNation or Dream Horse’s ads.   You can check out each of our sale horses on these two sites, SportHorseNation and Dream Horse.  Simply search for the horse’s name or Cathy Wieschhoff!

> We are back on the road now with the two Training level horses, headed to Indiana Eventing Association’s Training Three-day.  Wish us luck, and keep kicking!

Beginner Novice Olympics!

What a weekend we had a Spring Bay Horse Trials 2011.  It is that time of year again; time for all the youngsters to step up and become tried and true EVENT horses! The weather was a little intimidating, but the CW Event Team pulled out the rain gear and off we went!  The two Training level horses put in good dressage tests to land them each in 4th place.  The winds were really howling during the Beginner Novice horses’ tests but they all stayed in the ring and finished their tests despite the thunder and lightening.  Show Jumping went Saturday afternoon as planned.  Ready put in a good, clean round and seemed much more focused this time out.  Slewboy showed much improvement having only 2 rails down.  He was really trying in all the mud.  One of the first-timers, Investor, had a good round, only puling one rail.  The other two first-timers, Twoelevelinprogress and FICA, both had clean rounds to end the day.  We packed up our wet horses and headed home to prepare for cross-country day!

Luckily, Sunday dawned much prettier with blue skies and sunshine! We headed over to Masterson Station for a very busy day on the cross-country course.  We had 6 horses go within a time span of 1 hour and 40 minutes!  WHEW!  The Training course had a very scary water that caused problems all day.  I am so proud of Ready for jumping in after taking one small look.  On the other side of the course the Novice and Beginner Novice were running.  Both levels had some good questions, the Beginner Novice even had a skinny, 2 stride line, (hence the Beginner Novice Olympic term!).  Investor, (Donald), put in a clean round despite a small wound he received on Saturday night!  He is growing into such a delightful and easy horse to have around!  Twoeleveninprogress, (Twoey), put in clean round for his first time out, ending on his dressage score.  FICA was a little more cautious, having 2 stops early in the course, but she really got the hang of it and was jumping boldly by the end. Investor, (Donald), was the ribbon winner out the group, placing 5th.  We were proud of each of the youngsters and look forward to their futures. YOU could be a part of the ride as each of these youngsters are for sale!  For more information contact me!

Until next time!
